Mine Water Treatment and Reclamation


  • For the past 13 years, 8 of which were on a full-time onsite basis, AJAX staff have completed multiple construction assignments as the owner’s Project Manager. Starting in 2005 AJAX was the  Project and Construction Manager for a US$24MM high density water treatment plant and ancillary facilities located at 11,300 feet.  Design components included over 40,000 lf of HDPE pipeline, one pump station, a 160-ft diameter clarifier, solution handling facilities consisting of two 212,000 gallon neutralization/aeration tanks, two lime slurry tanks, a SCADA system, radio telemetry, automated pH and turbidity instrumentation, video monitoring, and two 20-acre freeze/thaw sludge disposal beds. 


  • Since 2007 AJAX staff have managed more than $250MM of construction on behalf of the mine. These projects have included a 6-mile Tailings Delivery Pipeline, a Tailings Cyclone Station  a  1-mile Tailings Dam Spillway Tunnel, a 4-mile high pressure water return pipeline and pump station, and multiple water conveyance and environmental reclamation projects.
  • AJAX staff were involved with the project permitting at county and state levels; generating project management reports, presentations, and project bid documents; controlling project costs and providing cost forecasts; providing invoice and contractor pay estimate review; coordination and approval of change order documentation and implementations; providing project planning and scheduling; and acting as a liaison between Company, Design Engineer, QA Contractors, General Contractors, and Regulators. 


  • In addition, AJAX staff completed additional onsite roles as Project Coordinator and/or Engineering Support for environmental reclamation projects, including the excavation of over 600,000 cy of sludge sediment, remediation of over 30 historic mine waste rock dumps, a comprehensive geotechnical study of three inactive tailings dams, a shaft and adit sealing project, an MSE retaining wall monitoring and remedial design project, a site-wide dust control project, and an annual tunnel inspection.
